What can Aston Villa youngster Aaron Ramsey offer to Cheltenham Town?

Aston Villa youngster Aaron Ramsey is set to join Cheltenham Town on loan until the end of the 21/22 season. The England international is the younger brother of Villa first teamer Jacob Ramsey, but what could he bring to the Robins squad?

Ramsey grew up in Birmingham with his brother Jacob, and has progressed through the ranks at the club since he joined at the age of 8. He scored a total of 26 goals last season for Aston Villa U-23’s, and is already racking up the goals again this season.

The 18-year-old made an appearance in the FA Youth Cup final against Liverpool in 2021, where the Villains beat the Reds 2-1 to win the trophy.

Ramsey also made an appearance in Villa’s 6-0 win against Barrow in the EFL Cup back in August, coming on as a substitute.

The midfielder has scored seven times and assisted three this season in the Premier League 2 division 2, while also netting and assisting once in the EFL trophy, bringing his tally to 12 goal contributions in just nine games so far this campaign, and Aston Villa U-23 sit in fifth place, with 22 points.

His brother Jacob has been a regular for Villa’s first team this season, and has impressed during the course of the campaign, netting twice so far in the Premier League.

Cheltenham Town have averaged 1.24 goals per game this season, with the vast majority of them coming from attackers Alfie May and Andy Williams.

Midfielder and Leicester loanee Callum Wright has bagged five goals from midfield, but the addition of Ramsey could add another dynamic to the Robins team, giving them another option that will provide goals and assists from the centre of the park.

Cheltenham have drawn nine games in the league so far, the joint second most in the league behind Sheffield Wednesday. Their recent form suggests that a signing like Ramsey could be necessary, as the Robins have not won a game since November 23, drawing four and losing four in all competitions since.

They have also scored just three goals in their last four games and are struggling to find the net, so Aaron Ramsey could be a breath of fresh air for Michael Duff’s side.

Should the deal go through, Duff will be hopeful that Ramsey can emulate the achievements of Callum Wright, who has been a massive success this season.

Up next for the Robins is a tie against Charlton Athletic at the Jonny Rocks Stadium on Saturday.
