With her contract due to expire this year, Manchester City Women’s captain Steph Houghton has signed a contract extension, claiming it was one of the easiest decisions she’s ever made.
Despite the length of the contract not being announced, City have said that the 33-year-old has committed her “immediate future” to the club.
Since joining the club in 2013, Houghton has won a Women’s Super League title as well as three FA Cups and three League Cups, becoming captain in her first season.
Speaking to mancity.com, she expressed her joy, saying: “I’m delighted, once the talk started there was always going to be one answer and for me it was the easiest decision I’ve ever made to commit my future to this football club.
“Wow, eight years, it’s actually flown by! Ultimately, it’s always been about being at City, being a part of this club for now and for the future.
“That’s why I wanted to commit and show that I’m a loyal person to my team, my club and to the people that have helped me along the way.”
Houghton also wears the armband for the England Women’s national team, and will continue to do so for City for at least another season.
