Tom Needham states “it’s going to be a tester this weekend” ahead of Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies clash

Forest Green Rovers Womens assistant manager, Tom Needham hopes his side can “get back on track right away” after a series of postponements.

The team are sixth in the table in their first season in the South West Regional Women’s Football League and are preparing to play their first game since their 3-1 victory over Middlezoy in early December.

They face fourth placed Royal Wootton Bassett on Sunday, who they beat 5-3 when the sides met earlier this season.

Needham believes that home advantages are big in the league, and with a long run of away games after this weekend, a win here is vital.

“Teams definitely perform better at home. It would be great to get a win before going into a stretch of away games.

“Hopefully we can take advantage and put the home advantage to good use.

“The team need to hit the ground running following a long gap without games.

“We know what we want to work on going into the games coming up, hopefully we can get back on track right away.”, says the assistant head coach.

The newly-promoted side have brought in fresh legs this season in a bid to stay in the new league and look ahead for the future.

“We’ve had some 16-year-olds who’ve been fantastic. It’s a really nice mix of energy and experience.

“We’re hoping to improve this season and get better as the season goes on, then hopefully next season we can push on and be as competitive next season and start to push up the leagues as the years go on.” says Needham.

Forest Green Ladies will welcome the Wiltshire side on home turf at 2pm on Sunday, January 16.
