Swindon Town Women showed plenty of resilience to keep a strong AFC Wimbledon side at bay and leave with a deserved point.
Richard Wood praised his team’s character as they seek to get back on track and climb up the league table.
“I think it’s a good point, well earned by us,” he said. “Good to get back on track really and get a clean sheet which is important.”
The Robins currently sit just above the relegation zone, whereas their opponents sit in seventh looking to extend a promising start.
“I think they’re (AFC Wimbledon) a decent side, that will do pretty well this year.
“I think second half we were the better team and we were on top,” Wood said.

However, Town struggled in the first half, but went into the break level, with Mia Smith and the defence keeping Wimbledon at bay.
“The first half hour we struggled a little bit. We spoke at half-time and the second half we came out a lot stronger,” he said.
“We were unlucky not to get all three points,” Wood added.
The manager praised Mia Smith in goal making vital saves within the first half to keep her side in and to maintain her clean sheet.
“One of our centre-backs nearly scored an own goal and Smith made a miraculous save,” he said. “Overall, it was balance and I am pleased.”
Swindon’s head coach had plenty of positive words for his goalkeeper and their first clean sheet of the season.
“The clean sheet is massive for us; we have focussed a lot this week on having some structure.
“If we are conceding goals than that is a problem. It wasn’t pretty at times today.”
Overall, Wood believes this result is great preparation for their busy, yet hard schedule ahead as they seek to prepare for league leaders Oxford United on the weekend.
“We want to work a bit more on our in possession and to be a bit calmer,” Wood explained.
“We can’t just expect to step up to this league and be at the level we would like to be.
“We are good enough; the girls are good enough to step up into this league.”
