“Utter incompetence from top to bottom” Gloucester City Council face backlash over missed bin collections

People in Gloucester are voicing their concerns over the rubbish piling up outside their houses.

Gloucester City Council blamed the lack of collections over the past few weeks on the holidays and poor weather conditions. In an update on Twitter, they said: “The Council has issued an apology for the inconvenience this has caused and is working hard with its contractor to ensure that the service catches up with the remaining missed collections.”

Matt Selwyn from Quedgeley said “The bins were finally collected yesterday but the lack of responses from the council was unacceptable. They still haven’t collected food waste, and the green waste bin I pay for remains uncollected. Our recycling was just thrown into the back of a flatbed truck, not taken by a recycling van.”

A spokesperson from the council said that all items will be sorted at the tip and they will be recycled rather than put into landfill. This quicker, more effective way of collecting waste is known as co-mingling.

They have also revealed that Amey, who collect refuse and recycling in Gloucestershire, will not be fined for missed collections over the last few weeks.

This week the people of Podsmead, Barton, Tredworth, Moreland and Hempsted can expect increased collections by recycling crews to “provide a recycling catch-up service”.

Garry Collier from Gloucester hasn’t had his recycling collected since the 22nd of December. He’s hoping it will be collected on Friday.
