Army accused of ‘going soft’ with campaign video

New campaign videos have been released by the Britsh Army, these videos expressed openness to being more diverse about sexuality, religion and beliefs.

‘Can I be gay in the Army?’, was one of the videos released that received backlash from former members of the Army.

Colonel Richard Kemp, former commander of British forces spoke to the BBC and said: “Neglecting the main group of people who are interested in joining” and went on to say it will not solve the “recruiting crisis”.

Soldiers from the Army

On the other hand, Retired Army officer Major General Tim Cross said that he supported the Army recruiting on an open basis. Cross went on to say to the BBC radio 4, “We must ensure that everybody knows that they have an opportunity of joining the British armed forces and joining the Army in particular, but we are not going to be soft”.

People have been going to Twitter to share their views:

Have to agree with @piersmorgan about #bethebest. We are training soldiers for the best army in the world not an after school club
