Update: Gloucestershire’s Covid-19 vaccinations

On Saturday, more than 1,000 people in Gloucestershire received the Covid-19 vaccination, on what was dubbed ‘Super Saturday’.

This comes after PM Boris Johnson praised Cheltenham for their rapid vaccination rollout in a Downing Street press conference last week.

The Covid-19 vaccine is currently being offered to people who are most at risk from coronavirus, before being offered more widely. This includes those over 50, those with underlying health conditions and frontline hospital workers.

Around 90% of Cheltenham’s over 80s have now been vaccinated. These vaccinations took place at Cheltenham General Hospital at the Oakley Ward.

In a daily update by Gloucestershire County Council yesterday, 10 more positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the area.

The government aims to get two million people vaccinated a week across the UK. They believe that this is the number of vaccinations that would be required to return ‘back to normal’ by Easter.
