Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers set to benefit from new funding announced by Premier League

Clubs across League One, League Two and the National League will be boosted by further funding from the Premier League as they continue their recovery from the Pandemic.

The Premier League announced a further £20 million for teams in League One and Two for the 2021/22 season and £5 million to clubs from National League and National League North and South between now and 2025.

This follows the £250 million rescue package agreed back in December last year which gave League One and League Two clubs, including Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers, access to £30 million in immediate funds.

Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Masters, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide additional support to EFL and National League clubs at a time when the whole of football is looking to return to normality.

“We look forward to working with our football partners to provide more important financial assistance in areas where it is truly needed, which will continue to make a difference to those clubs impacted significantly be COVID-19.” Masters said.

Across the pandemic The Johnny Rocks Stadium and The New Lawn were left empty as fans were denied entry to watch their sides play.

Cheltenham Town fans in particular would’ve missed watching their team last season as the Robins fought their way to a first-place finish and promotion to League One.

But with turnstiles not turning, clubs across the EFL that rely heavily on matchday revenues, felt the full effects of the global pandemic financially.

Last season, Cheltenham Town accepted fans back into the stadium across three games. But thankfully this season, all EFL clubs were able to welcome their supporters home.
