Universities recently announced a new rapid testing system to allow students to go home for Christmas. More than a million students will have to travel home in December which could cause a huge spike in cases.
With rapid testing, you can find out in less than half an hour if you are infectious.
One of the universities supplying a rapid test system is The University of Gloucestershire. Testing will start on December 1st and end on December 9th, if a student tests positive for the virus they then have 10 days to self isolate, which leaves enough time to still travel back for Christmas.
‘I’m going home for Christmas and as I’ve got a newborn nephew at home and a vulnerable Nan, who I obviously don’t want to be passing anything on to, it’s just good to make sure I’m safe and not putting them in harm’s way.’ says advertising student Jack Kirk, who will be taking a coronavirus test.
Another student Chloe Sanders says ‘I will be taking the test as I’m travelling home by train and don’t want to risk spreading the infection.’
The University of Gloucestershire press offices have said ‘we are pleased that our asymptomatic testing at both Oxtalls and Park campus are running smoothly, the testing is open to all students and we are encouraging as many people as we can to take part in this programme. These tests are a critical part of the approach to travelling home for Christmas.’ .
Booking your test is easy and will only take a few moments, by taking a coronavirus test you could potentially be saving lives and Christmas.
