Jonny Bairstow has pulled out of Big Bash League franchise Melbourne Stars after being called back to England’s test squad for January’s tour to Sri Lanka.
The-31-year old last played a test in December 2019 against South Africa. England were supposed to tour Sri Lanka in March of this year, but the series was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Bairstow, who averages 37.74 from 70 Tests, was dropped during the tour of South Africa last winter after a lean phase in the format.
“We’re naturally disappointed Jonny won’t be able to link up with us this season, but we wish him well on his recall and England’s winter tours.” said Stars coach David Hussey.
Bairstow is currently gearing up for the ODI series with the England squad in South Africa. He scored 86* (48) and earned a man of the match award in the first T20. England won the the 3-match T20 series 3-0 and start the 3-match ODI series on Friday.
