University of Gloucestershire Submits Planning Application for Francis Close Hall

In July last year, a power cut at Francis Close Hall resulted in the loss of 10 years and thousands of pounds worth of work in one of their Bioscience laboratories.

The power cut took place on a Saturday evening, and therefore wasn’t discovered until Monday morning, making it too late to save or fix any damages made, especially any made in laboratory. The power cut was caused by the loss of their electricity supply, which cut off their main electricity power supply. This is what their Bioscience facilities ran off.

There damage made was irreversible and expensive. Therefore, to ensure this doesn’t happen again, the university has submitted a planning application to Cheltenham Borough Council. If they are permitted, the university will build an ‘energy generator and metal enclosure to support the bioscience facilities’ on campus, to prevent any further potential damage that could be made in the event of another power cut.

The application was made on the 4th of January and the university are awaiting a response. Find out more about the building plans:
