18-Year-Old Dies Following Stabbing in Ipswich

An 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in Ipswich yesterday afternoon.

Two male suspects were spotted leaving the scene are believed to be involved in the assault.

“This was a brazen attack in the town centre which will have caused great distress to anyone who witnessed it,” Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Connick said, believing this may have been a targeted attack.

A section of Westgate Street remains sectioned off in search of evidence around the crime scene.

“There will be an increased police presence in Ipswich this evening and over the coming days to provide reassurance to local residents and businesses,” said Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Connick.

A section 60 order is currently underway in Ipswich, allowing officers to stop and search people in possibility of serious violence or weapons being involved for a period of 24 hours.

Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said “it was a terrible, terrible incident in broad daylight. Ipswich is [usually] safe compared to other places.”

He hopes that the extra police presence in the town would reassure people.
