The countless lockdowns we have endured since last March seem to make them feel like something completely ordinary to us now. Although to some staying at home might seem easy, it’s a whole new way of life and we’ve had to adapt.
Becoming hairdressers, chefs or even gym instructors in our own homes, lets take a look at the five things living in lockdown has taught all of us.
- How to cut our own hair
“Wait, what? I just realised I can’t cut my hair!” With barbers and hairdressers closed down, what else can we do? Just because we’re in lockdown and stuck inside, doesn’t mean we don’t want to still look good and fresh. So we do it ourselves. Watching countless ‘how to do it’ videos on youtube until you find the right one for you, but even then it doesn’t always work out…
2. How to cook like a chef
Although we can still treat ourselves to the odd takeaway every now and then (which seems like a luxury item during lockdown) some of us want more than a microwave meal from Tesco, and what better time to learn how to cook? Learning from online recipes and trying to make an impressive gourmet meal in your kitchen, we teach ourselves how to cook the food we crave for the from our favourite restaurants.
3. How to exercise and keep fit
Fitness fanatics were sad to hear gyms were closed once again. But don’t fret, it seems we are all learning how to keep fit from home. When there’s nothing to do but eat and most movement is restricted, a simple jog or walk seems like a moment of freedom. Some people have even created their own gym equipment with what they have at home, using water bottle weights and whatever they can find.
4. How to save our money wisely
Well let’s look at the facts: we can’t go on holiday, to the theatre or clubbing for a while. But, look at the positive side if possible; we’re saving all that money we would’ve spent, which has given us the opportunity to save up for future trips. It’s also forced us to be careful with money as its a difficult time economically and what we spend our pennies on matters most now.

5. How to enjoy your own company
It’s the best time to become your own best friend. As we spend most of the our time with our own selves without distractions, we’ve had no choice but to appreciate our own company. Facetiming a friend or zoom calls with work colleagues give us some time away, but nothing is better than watching your favourite movie for yourself.
