6 ways to glow up over lockdown

After the year we had with 2020, everyone just needs a little change in their lives. As lockdown confines us to our homes again, I’ve compiled a few ways we can all feel better about ourselves and get a little glow up, ready for when the clubs open again.

1. Establish a skincare routine

Having a skincare routine is one great way to have a glow up, the more confident you feel in your own skin the better you feel overall. A good skincare routine also has medical benefits as well. Your skin is the barrier protecting your body from infection, so you need to look after it.

However, with new products appearing on the shelves its sometimes hard to know what to go for. Before you buy a product make sure you know your skin type, this is vital as different skin types require different products. Once you know your skin type you only need three items: a cleanser, serum and moisturiser. These should be used twice a day, use hot water before cleansing but cold water after to ensure your pores have been closed. Follow this routine and before long your skin will be glowing.

2. Drink lots of water

There are many reasons why we should drink lots of water, keeping hydrated the most obvious. But one thing most people don’t know is that water is also essential to plump youthful and crack free skin. Science suggests that drinking around two litres of water each day will keep you hydrated but also reduce irritation and blemishes. Certified dermatologist Nazarian told Women’s Health Mag, “I’ve even found that my patients tend to complain of more acne lesions when they’re dehydrated.” More information on water and it’s affect on skin can be found on their page.

3. Try not to use heat on your hair for 2 months

While it is widely known that heat from appliances such as hairdryers can damage hair, we still use them on a daily basis. Yes, we all love the convenience of being able to have dry hair soon after our shower, but how much damage are we really causing? Blow drying your hair essentially removes the water from the hair cuticles causing all manner of damage, split ends or even brittle hair.

By not using your hair dryer for two months, you allow for your hair to rejuvenate itself, getting a natural, glossy and healthy head of hair again. Nothing shouts glow up more than beautifully healthy hair.

4. Exercise everyday.

The benefits of exercise are vast, with social, mental as well as physical benefits. Some people use exercise to build the physical strength while others use its as an outlet for their mental struggles. With gyms closed due to lockdown people are finding new and innovative ways to exercise, from home workouts in the garage to zoom yoga sessions. A little bit of exercise a day can go a long way in making a person feel better. Just going for a walk along the beach or in the park instead of a run gets your body moving and mind cleared. With the mind at ease and the body exercised, you’re bound to feel like a new person.

5. Get a good amount of sleep.

Scientific studies have shown the advantages of getting the right amount of sleep each night, with the recommended average for adults being 7-9 hours per night. Sleep allows your body to rest and rejuvenate, getting ready for what the next day will bring. A lack of sleep will make you tired and reduce your productivity the next day. To get the glow up you want this lockdown, listen to your body when it says its tired. Good sleep creates sweet dreams.

6. Tell yourself you are beautiful.

A glow up isn’t completely physical, a person’s mental state is just as important in becoming a better you. The idea of telling yourself you are beautiful each day or just giving yourself a pep talk will increase your mood and confidence massively. Positive reinforcement plays a massive role in improvement, as we have seen many times within sport. But this can be replicated in any part of our lives. The more you tell yourself you are strong, beautiful and enough, the better you will feel and the greater glow you will have.
