“The team’s well-being is ultimately rested on me” UOG Volleyball Marketing and Welfare Officer, Amine Kobielski, talks about the challenges of his new role.

Second year UOG Volleyball player, Amine Kobielski has stepped up to the role of Marketing and Welfare Officer for this year.

Marketing and Welfare Officer brings its challenges as it means handling and helping out all of the new first years gel into the team, feel welcomed with the rest of the squad and make sure everyone’s wellbeing is good and cared for. “It’s so difficult because the team’s well-being ultimately rested on me. Being on a committee has shown how much of an importance it is to me”.

Amine had a solid first year for the team, playing in all eight games on top of the final Varsity squad that beat Worcester in the last few minutes of the game. He’ll be pushing hard to play even more and get as many wins as possible this year. “We need to win more games. We did win Varisty, but in the BUCS season, we only won one game and in the conference cup, we were out first game. We have so much to prove”.

One of the marketing jobs includes trying to brand the team, and get regular content out there. One of the ways UOG volleyball do this is by their youtube channel, where they stream all of the games live.

Amine also had a big hand in preparing and organising the Think Pink event a few weeks ago, a fundraiser for breast cancer, as well as multiple events throughout the upcoming season. “It’s a tough battle, but I’ve been able to adapt and get used to it. It’s one of the uni’s biggest annual fundraisers, it’s the main fundraiser that we do as a sports society. It’s mainly also to help other societies bond as well”.

The team’s first game of the season was on Wednesday night, where they played “the best in the table” Cardiff Men’s 1st away and despite a 3-0 loss, they saw a significant improvement compared to last year.

“First game, we started with one of the best teams…obviously, we all wanted the win, but now we’ve shown people that Gloucestershire isn’t a joke, we are here to win.”.

“If you look at the individual sets, we have performed better than we did last year, especially in the second set. The score this year was 25-6, this year was 25-14. Although the score may only look a little better, the rallies themselves, we made sure they were tired, we definitely gave them a run for their money.”
