“The pitch was soaked, it was inevitable” Neil Spiller discusses postponement of lower league matches

Tuffley Rovers club secretary describes his frustration to Louis Writtle regarding the postponement of fixtures in the lower leagues of English football.

Spiller discussed the struggles that he faces in particular as club secretary going through the procedures when a game is postponed:

“You’ve got to phone managers to confirm postponement, make sure social media’s are updated. Small things, but for a small club like us, we don’t have a social media team, I run the social media stuff. I’m there trying to call the game off”

Spiller is not the only one at the club that feels the effects of matches being called off:

“I think our manager would probably say it’s disruptive in terms of getting his team into a groove”

Rovers have only played five fixtures in the Hellenic league since the start of November, with their latest postponement in the league this weekend gone as their match against Royal Wootton Bassett Town was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Rovers last fixture in the league was on December 27 when they hosted Longlevens Fc in a 4-0 defeat at home.

Rovers are set to travel to Roman’s Glass St George in their next league fixture this weekend, and will hope for little to no more disruptions for the rest of their season.
