Meal deals are a pride of the British public. A person’s meal deal choice may reflect their whole personality. A plain cheese sandwich, ready salted crisps and a water bottle? You must be as interesting as a piece of paper. For meat eaters the variety is endless, for vegetarians, the story is practically the opposite.
We explored different shops across Cheltenham to find which places offer the best varieties for those of us who are vegetarian. From our very unscientific survey, the results may surprise you….
1. Boots

The top of this list will almost definitely take you by surprise. You may be thinking, where is Tesco? Don’t you worry, they aren’t too far behind but the pharmaceutical shop has taken the crown. Despite the slightly more expensive price tag at £3.39, it is most definitely worth it if you are avoiding the meat options. A big range of interesting veggie choices like a hummus falafel wrap will really make you rethink where you go for a quick lunch. What will also amaze you is their surprisingly large portions, bags of pineapple slices really make the 40p difference worth it.
2. Tesco

Oh yes, this local super market might be why you wake up with a smile on your face. They are notorious for their incredible meal deals however they don’t quite win the race with their veggie options. You would expect that with a whole section dedicated to meat alternatives that you would be in veggie heaven, but no…. A majority of these sandwiches weren’t even available. Those that were left were still very viable lunch options however the unavailable items made you ponder at what a brie and cranberry sandwich tasted like. What saved the supermarket king is their wide variety of snacks. Their plant based sausage rolls and massive range of crisps drags Tesco further up the list. And with a very affordable price of £3, Tesco should still be your go to.
3. Sainsburys

Sainsburys have never been famous for their meal deals and their veggie selection does nothing to save them. With only a couple of veggie options and those being obscenely boring, maybe skip lunch if the nearest supermarket is Sainsburys. Although an egg and cress sandwich is a family favourite, when that is the only option aside a plain sandwich, you will probably be disappointed. The lack of snacks and the slightly more expensive price ruins the shops chances of any sort of respect when their meal deals come up into conversation.
4. Greggs

Sausage rolls? Pizzas? Steak bakes? Greggs have won the heart of pretty much every person currently living in the UK. If you are in the mood for a meal deal, walk the other way. With a snack not even included and an elevated price of £3.35, it is beyond me why you wouldn’t just get 3 sausage rolls. The only veggie option for your main is a cheese sandwich, could it get any more boring? Greggs you have let us down.
