Racing experts find massive hotel price increase ahead of this years Cheltenham Festival

Fans looking to attend the famous Cheltenham Festival this year may be shocked to hear the insane price increase of local hotels in the area.

According to Irish Racing, hotel prices in Cheltenham have increased by 670% compared to other race meetings during the year.

It was recorded in January that the average price of a four day stay in Cheltenham was £543 but due to the increase, a four day stay during the Cheltenham Festival this year will look to set you back a huge sum of £4,181.

An IrishRacing.com spokesperson said: “It would be silly to not expect an increase in the cost of accommodation during the Cheltenham Festival, but racing fans will be shocked to see that they have cough up 670% more for a room than at any other time of year.

“Racing fans may have to pay on average £4,181 for a room during the Festival, which would take a lot of things going your way on the track to cover.”

Hotels are not the only ones to be effected, it’s also said that Airbnb’s have had their prices increased by 225%, costing someone £1640 for the four night stay between March 14th to 17th.

When comparing these prices to the likes of holidays and destinations abroad, it is cheaper to go on a 14 day Caribbean cruise then the four days of the Cheltenham Festival.

Last year it was reported that 280,627 fans, on aggregate, came to the Festival across the four days but with the massive cost increase, this could affect the attendance of the event next month.
