It’s another weekend full of Premier League action coming up, with many clashes that could prove to be crucial for certain sides come the end of the season, at both ends of the table. Here we take a look at some of the key fixtures taking place, as well as potential disruptions from Storm Eunice, on travel for players, staff and fans.
West Ham vs Newcastle
The first game of the weekend, with an in-form Newcastle travelling to the London Stadium to face David Moyes’ West Ham. That is of course, providing that the ongoing Storm Eunice doesn’t disrupt the team’s journey from the north to the south.
Kieran Trippier has been ruled out for several weeks, after he fractured a bone in his foot against Aston Villa last Sunday, so Eddie Howe’s side will be without the full back, who’s scored two free kicks in his last two games.
West Ham will be looking to an on-fire Jarrod Bowen to continue his fine form against the Magpies and help secure three points against the Magpies.
Arsenal vs Brentford
It’s a short trip across London for the Bees, as Arsenal host a struggling Brentford team who haven’t won a league game since January 2nd. Arsenal edged out Wolves at Molineux last week and will be hoping for a similar result this time around.
There is still some uncertainty on whether Christian Eriksen will make his first appearance for Brentford, however it has not been ruled out. On the other hand, Arsenal will be without Gabriel Martinelli, who is suspended following his swift dismissal against Wolves
A win is expected for Arsenal, and would bolster their European hopes, and they’ll be hoping for teams around them to drop points in their favour.
Crystal Palace vs Chelsea
Another London derby takes place as Chelsea travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace. Viera’s side have put in some impressive performances as of late, but getting something out of this match could prove difficult.
Conor Gallagher is unavailable to face his parent club due to Premier League rules, which could weaken Palace’s midfield, however they do have exciting options such as Eze and Olise that could make a difference.
Many would expect a Chelsea win here, but it isn’t a complete write off, watch this space.
Liverpool vs Norwich
Norwich getting a result away at Anfield seems a near impossible task, especially with the Reds in fine form off the back of a strong win at the San Siro against Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek.
Jurgen Klopp’s side currently have no injury concerns, which means they will also have strong options off the bench, so there’s a high chance of a high scoring win.
Norwich’s form has improved as of late, but in one of the most difficult fixtures of the season it’s hard to see anything but a loss for the Canaries
There will also be travel concerns for Norwich given the severity of Storm Eunice, which could lead to disruption of the fixture.
Manchester City vs Tottenham
The standout fixture of the weekend, the late kick off on Saturday, it’s a tale of two sides, with Man City in exceptional form, having thrashed Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are coming off the back of three straight Premier League defeats, and so confidence will be low, especially with such a difficult game ahead.
Tottenham edged out Man City at home in their first game of the season back in August, but it will be a much more difficult task to get a result at the Etihad.
Once again, Storm Eunice could play a part in whether this game is able to take place, with Tottenham working out logistics regarding travelling to Manchester.
Leeds vs Manchester United
A game that many Leeds fans will have been eagerly awaiting, Leeds United vs Manchester United in the Premier League at Elland Road.
Neither side are in the best form with Leeds having gone a month without win, and the Red Devils having struggled in their previous two games, drawing both of them, before their most recent midweek clash against Brighton. Manchester United will be the favourites but not many would completely write off Leeds.
The stadium will be rocking, and we’ll be hoping for another goal fest, after thrilling games between these two at Old Trafford this season and last season.
