Cheltenham Town stalwart Chris Hussey departs for Port Vale

Cheltenham Town defender Chris Hussey has completed a transfer to League Two outfit Port Vale on an undisclosed fee.

The 33-year-old joined from Sheffield United in May 2018 and went on to make 154 appearances for the Robins scoring four goals, including the goal that confirmed promotion to League One.

The defender played a massive part in that title winning campaign last season, playing an impressive 43 of the 46 League Two games.

Hussey played under Vale Director of Football David Flitcroft at Bury which seems to have played a big factor in the move.

“I’m absolutely delighted to bring Chris in. I’ve always been an admirer of his work, he’s a proper professional and a proper winner,” said Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke.

“I want to thank David Flitcroft and the board for their support on getting this over the line, Flickers knows Chris and has done a hell of a lot of work to get it through and I appreciate the support from them.

“Chris comes in as an older experienced lad but he’s as fit as a fiddle, trust me, he’s an absolute athlete that prides himself on his professionalism and his work.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him link up with a squad that is already showing plenty of promise.”
