Miley Cyrus: A Plastic Hearts Review

From American sweetheart to the Queen of Rock, Miley Cyrus is back and better than ever before.

Stepping confidently into her rock era with her new album Plastic Hearts, released on the 27th November 2020, Miley Cyrus has quite literally reinvented herself for what seems like the tenth time, not that were complaining. It’s no secret that the 28 year old singer loves a style change, but could this be her best ever?

Her distinctive voice has taken her from singing country, to pop, to hip hop, to experimental and now onto rock. Miley’s raspy voice is recognised by everyone and is known for being able to pull off every genre of music, her first studio album ‘Meet Miley Cyrus’ came out in 2007 and had songs such as ‘see you again’ on, classed as teen pop, these songs weren’t as popular as her most recent record breaking anthems but still they were what kickstarted Miley’s music.

Moving onto rock is the best thing Miley has ever done, in August, Miley started teasing fans with rock covers on the well known app Tik Tok, covering songs such as “Zombie” and “Heart of Glass” automatically it got fans excited for her secret project, and it wasn’t long until fans speculated that she was releasing her very own rock songs. Only a short few months later and Miley confirmed that her notorious raspy voice would be used for Plastic Hearts her new pop rock album.

Plastic Hearts was later released in November, consisting of 12 original rock songs and 3 rock covers, the album went straight to the top, with critics saying it’s Miley’s best album yet! Her hit single ‘Midnight Sky‘ is just one of the many great songs in her seventh studio album.

Another song in her new album is ‘Angels like you‘ in this slow ballad, Miley sings “I’m everything they said I would be” Miley is apologising to the people she seems to have let down, but who she is talking to is very subjective, is she talking about previous lovers? Or is she apologising to the fans she thinks she’s let down? Miley has stated that most of her album is an “unapologetic apology” but who she is apologising to is left up for us to decide.

Her career hasn’t been smooth but it most definitely hasn’t been boring either, with scandals left right and centre, a failed marriage and cheating rumours it’s safe to say Miley has had her fair share of the drama. Miley’s new album has a more mature feel about it and shows that Miley is becoming the person that everyone can look up and admire.
