The best takeaways in Cheltenham to keep you full this lockdown

Phoebe Nott explores some of the best takeaway options in Cheltenham.

I like to think of myself as a takeaway specialist in the worst possible way (I eat way too much of it). And what makes me such an expert- I love food a bit too much. My life revolves around what my next meal is going to be. So here are the best takeaways in Cheltenham to keep you full, satisfied, and smiling during lockdown 3.0.

1. ValentinosThe cheapest and most fulfilling pizza I have ever had drunk. Now I know cinnamon in pizza sauce seems bizarre but it changed my life. I am allergic to cinnamon, not drastically, I won’t go into shock and die, I do get bad stomach cramps. But I will risk it all for this pizza. It is greasy, massive and the crust is just something Domino’s and Pizza Hut have not come close to. The largest size is a whopping 16″, and you can get two of these for just £11 on JustEat. And when I say it’s big, it’s a monster. And me, being a big foodie, I can normally only eat 3 slices so it’s perfect to share with your family or flatmates during the lockdown. I always think the worst thing about takeaway is eating it all but not feeling satisfied. Rest assured, you will not feel hungry after this pizza.

2. Kaspa’sI don’t really have a sweet tooth but when I do I get Kaspa’s. The prices are a bit more expensive than what they are in the restaurant but it’s all worth it. A lot of dessert places sacrifice presentation when you order. You end up with a smashed banana, ice cream seeping out of the Tupperware, and strawberry sauce sticking your milkshake to your napkin *cough* Creams *cough*. But not at Kaspa’s. I have never seen anything more beautiful than my Nutella and strawberry waffle all wrapped up in its cardboard box bed, waiting to be devoured. From experience, usually when you order a dessert that comes with a side of ice cream, the ice cream never comes. With Kaspa’s it’s in a cute little pot, untouched and kept away from the hot food to stop it from melting. And that is customer care. You can order on Kaspa’s on UberEats.

3. YoSushiIt’s a little treat I give myself when I’m feeling down. Now I know it’s expensive and it has to be a pretty big reward to be worth that much money, but it is worth it. If you are fed up with feeling bad about yourself and sluggish after eating takeaway then Yosushi will make everything better. But it earns a place on this list for the vegetarian and vegan options. I will 9/10 have something veggie here, it is refreshing and because it can’t rely on salmon or tuna, boasts a really interesting combination of flavours. A lot of restaurant chains don’t bother perfecting their vegetarian and vegan dishes, normally it’s a meat replacement and just ends up tasting bland, but Yosushi does not fall into this trap. The Pumpkin Katsu curry is gorgeous but the real star of the show is the Shiitake Mushroom Ramen. At only 225 calories it is a great option when you want something light but warm in the winter months. Also, a little trick of the trade is to use the app TooGoodToGo when ordering Yosushi, you can sometimes find a bag of sushi leftovers which wasn’t sold that day for only £3.50.

4. Falafel KingThis will fill you up and leave you feeling happy. It’s comfort food, with falafel coming in multiple flavours it has something for everyone. Their whole menu is plant-based so if you’re with a friend who can’t usually order takeaway because of their dietary requirements, go here. I know most people have a bit of a phobia when ordering a main or side of salad. That mushed up, a soggy and dull thing which you just don’t want to touch. But Falafel King has the best salads around, they are bright, full of flavour, and fresh.

5. Happy GardenNow I live two doors down from a Chinese takeaway but if it’s not Happy Garden I don’t want it. Maybe it’s the fortune cookies they give for free, ‘You will meet a tall dark, handsome man’, or the complimentary prawn crackers. This is my favourite Chinese takeaway. I always say that a good Chinese can be easily identified by their fried rice. It has to be the perfect texture, with vegetables and a healthy helping of egg. I tried to make my own fried rice once and it did not go well so I certainly admire the craft. Between £5 to £7 per dish on JustEat, you can’t really go wrong.
