Cardiff Blues and Wales winger Josh Adams has been released by Wales after being suspended for the first two matches of the 2021 Six Nations following a breach of Covid-19 protocols.
The suspension follows after images of the top try scorer at the 2019 World Cup was leaked of him at a family gathering for a baby gender reveal party.
The incident happened on Sunday, when the squad was released on Saturday until Tuesday, Adams has come out and apologised for his actions.
“When out of camp, at the weekend, I made an error of judgement,” said Adams. “I attended a small gathering of immediate family to celebrate a family milestone.
“I’d like to apologise to my team-mates and to our supporters for my mistake.”
Wales begin their Six Nations campaign on Saturday when they welcome Ireland, which I imagine Adams would’ve been one of the first names on the team sheet, he’ll also miss Wales’ trip to Murrayfield to face Scotland, this is a great opportunity for Gloucester Rugby flyer Louis Rees-Zammit to stake his claim and make a real case for inclusion in Wales’ future squads upon Adams’ return.
The man who turned 20-years-old on the same day as Adams broke COVID-19 protocols is now favourite to take the position on the wing, although Hallam Amos will be pushing him for the jersey.
His inclusion in the 36-man squad comes after another impressive start to this years campaign with 11 tries in 17 matches in total for the Cherry & Whites, even though they sit bottom of the Gallagher Premiership.
Wales’ back three will now likely be Louis Rees-Zammit partnering George North on the wings, with Leigh Halfpenny likely to start at fullback.
