Neal Osborn says he’s proud of the effort of his University of Gloucestershire cricket team after falling to defeat to the University of Worcester in Varsity.
Gloucestershire were beaten by 54 runs as they failed to reach Worcester’s total of 175, despite bowling them out in 48 overs.
Osborn, who was Gloucestershire’s highest run scorer on the day with an unbeaten 32, says the match was a good way to start the outdoor season.
“It’s always hard when you’ve lost a game, but I’m really pleased,” Osborn told Park Life Sport post-match.
“It was the first game out here, the ground’s really soft and we had a few injuries, but we competed.
“You look at the game last year and we got rolled, we got thoroughly beaten whilst this year they beat us, but not by a lot and I’m really impressed by the commitment of the lads.
“It’s a good bench setter for BUCS, and I don’t see why we can’t go on and win that league.”
Last year, Worcester were quick to chase down Gloucestershire’s total of 119 all-out, so bowling his rivals out is what Osborn believes is a mark of far they have come since then.
“That was massive for us, even if it was with just seven balls to go,” Osborn continued.
“I think we took maybe one wicket last year so to get them all-out was fantastic.
“Unfortunately we didn’t put our foot on their throat when they were down a few wickets, but I’m really proud of the boys.”
