Hartpury successfully defended their BUCS super rugby crown by surviving a mammoth comeback by Cardiff Met to win 27-24. Despite trailing 20-3 at half time a remarkable comeback was led by man of the match and Harlequins bound Alex Dombrandt it was an 80th minute try that denied the Welsh their chance at glory.
Hartpury start quickest
It was Hartpury who started quickest, Sam Leeming with an early penalty and conversion to Maliq Holden’s try. Leeming’s strong kicking form continued as he added another penalty and conversion before the half, sandwiching a try by Alex Forrester.
Cardiff Met’s comeback had started just before the half, preventing the 40 minute whitewash through the boot of Harry Johnston.
Three second half tries saw the Met take the lead, only to be broken through in the last play of the game by a try that gave Hartpury the title. The final whistle succeeding the conversion.
