Last year Wales kick-started their year off in the best way by winning the Six Nations, on the other end England had one of their worst tournaments as they finished in fifth place.
We are less than a month away from the 2022 Six Nations and the England squad is set to be announced within the coming days. Combine the England announcement with Gloucester rugby’s current form it could lead to Eddie Jones calling up some of George Skivington’s men.
England:
In terms of England calibre players within Gloucester the first name that pops into you head is Jonny May, the England flyer has 67 caps already for his country and 35 tries for his efforts. I think May will get in this year but I think it could be one of his last appearances in the Six Nations.
Other players on the fringe would be Lewis Ludlow (2 caps), Mark Atkinson (1 cap) and Ollie Thorley (1 cap). This is just my personal opinion but Eddie Jones if you’re reading this call-up Val Rapava-Ruskin!
Scotland:
With Gloucester’s Scottish contingency it pretty simple who’s going to get plucked from Skivingtons team. Adam Hastings and Chris Harris will definitely be called up to the squad, it’s a given at this point.
Hastings may not start every game due to Finn Russell but he still as important because if Russell isn’t available for whatever reason it is the Gloucester fly-halves responsibility to take the reigns and orchestrate the team.
For Harris I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t start for Scotland against England on the fifth of February. I would’ve mentioned Alex Craig as a possible bolter for the squad but he’s currently recovering from injury.
Wales & Italy:
A couple youngsters for both nations. Louis Rees-Zammit like his Scottish teammates is pretty much a definite pick for Wayne Pivac, it was the speedsters maiden Six Nations last year and he passed with flying colours scoring four try’s over the course of the competition.
Although he hasn’t played a lot for Gloucester this season Stephen Varney is a very pivotal player the Azzuri and a call-up to the squad should be on the cards.
