Jurgen Klopp has today assured Liverpool fans that discussions with Mohamed Salah about a new contract are going positively.
Salah – who is currently on African Cup of Nations duty with Egypt – has 18 months left on his current contract, and has previously hinted that he has a desire to move away from Anfield, with Spain being an appealing destination.
Speaking to media ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup clash with Arsenal on Thursday night, Klopp was confident the 29-year-old would stay at the club.
“We know, I know Mo wants to stay, we want him to stay. That’s where we are, these things take time, I cannot change it, but we’re in a good place,” said Klopp.
“Things take time, there are so many things in negotiations. It’s a third party too with the agent, it’s nothing to worry about; it’s a normal process.”
Klopp went on to praise the professionalism of his team’s talisman.
“His character, attitude, work rate, incredible. First in, last out, doing the right stuff. He knows his body, he listens to experts and tries to improve all the time, he worked so hard for this situation he will not waste it by doing less.”
Salah has netted 16 goals in 20 Premier League appearances in 2021/22, and is widely considered to be one of the best footballers in the world.
His AFCON campaign got off to a rocky start however, as Egypt lost 1-0 to Nigeria.
