PREVIEW: Gloucester City vs Havant & Waterlooville

Gloucester City travel to Hampshire tomorrow ahead of their 3PM kick off against 3rd place Havant & Waterlooville in the National League South.

Gloucester were beaten in the reverse fixture, losing 1-0. The main problem for Gloucester is their lack of goals as they’ve failed to score in 3 of their last 5 fixtures. To make matters worse, their opponents boast the second best defensive record in the league. They’ll need young Joe Parker to step up and produce a display the kind of forward play the fans know he is capable of.

Hope must be kept for The Tigers faithful, with Gloucester sitting in 19th just 5 points from the relegation zone,  meaning all games from here on out are crucial. The mood in the Havant & Waterlooville camp may have taken a hit, as they come off the back of a loss in a potential title decider against league leaders Dartford, though a win for The Hawks will put them level on points with Dartford.

Talking on their last defeat to Weston Super Mare, manager Marc Richards believe that Gloucester have been unfortunate in their last few fixtures, and the results will come:

“The mentality and commitment was there, we never let our heads drop after any of the goals, but yet again, the chances are not quite falling for us.

“You could see the effort and desire was there to the end as we created many chances and were denied by the cross bar and the goalkeeper on the line.

“We’re playing some good football, we just need that luck in the final third but it will come.”

Richards will be hoping his fortunes will turn as they have only won 1 since his appointment last month, although this one is expected to be a very tough fixture.
