Gloucester City are on the lookout for a new manager after the departure of James Rowe, with the 37 year old set to join Chesterfield Town.
In a statement on the club website, the team thanked Rowe for his work with the club, and announced that Jake Cole will take temporary charge until a permanent appointment is made.
The 35 year old goalkeeper joined the side in June, and will be assisted at his time at the helm by Adie Mings and Tom Webb.
The announcement was released by the club on Tuesday, ahead of their 1-0 defeat against play-off contenders Gateshead.
Rowe joined The Yellows in November 2019, with the popular manager joining on a two year deal and instantly impressing, leading the team to 17th before the 19/20 season was curtailed.
Alex Petheram will be especially disappointed at the move, with the Co-Chairman confirming his long term belief in Rowe’ importance in a club statement when he first joined the side.
“We see him very much as the missing piece of the puzzle for the long-term. James is a young manager, so different styles, different types of thinking, different types of management.”
His ambition for Rowe was evident in his appointment, with him being the first full-time manager of the club.
His spell as manager for The Tigers was Rowe’s first experience in charge of the dugout, having previously been Aldershot Town’s assistant manager between 2016-2019.
The Tigers have been in fine form under Rowe, currently sitting first in the National League North, having only one defeat in their first ten matches.
The club also confirmed their intent to appoint a new manager by the 9th December ahead of the team’s away game against Curzon Ashton on the 12th December.
Rowe’s rumoured new team, Chesterfield Town, currently sit 21st in the National League, one point away from safety in the division.
However, The Spireites are remaining tight lipped from confirming their new manager, saying in a statement on their website that the search was ongoing.
“Spireites chiefs have taken a step closer to filling the managerial vacancy at the Technique Stadium after holding interviews with a number of candidates today.”
The club also confirmed further additions to the committee members deciding the next appointment.
“Former players Kevin Davies and Lee Turnbull, who has been handed a football advisory role at the club, were on the interview panel.”
This will be a welcomed move for Chesterfield fans, with Davies in particular still held in high esteem by the supporters, starting his career at the Technique Stadium, making 129 appearances and scoring 22 goals across a four year spell at the club.
Lee Turnbull is also remembered fondly by supporters, with the forward playing 95 games and scoring 29 goals across his three year stint with the club.
