Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur collected 4-0 and 4-1 victories over Real Sociedad and Wolfsberger AC respectively, Rangers edged a four-goal thriller in Antwerp and Leicester and Arsenal drew in a thrilling night of European football.
Manchester United cruised to a 4-0 win over Real Sociedad in Turin with Bruno Fernandes bagging a brace.
Marcus Rashford added a third with a confident finish past Alex Remiro and Daniel James completed the rout after having another goal ruled out for offside.
Tottenham Hotspur comfortably defeated Wolfsberger AC 4-1 with Gareth Bale playing a starring role.
Bale registered an assist for Son Heung-Min’s opener and scored the second himself. Lucas Moura extended their lead before the break although Wolfsberger threatened a spirited comeback.
Michael Liendl converted from the spot after Moussa Sissoko’s clumsy challenge on Wernitznig, who also hit the crossbar. Carlos Vinicius marked his appearance off the bench to restore their three-goal cushion.
Leicester City and Slavia Prague finished goalless with Harvey Barnes coming closest for the Foxes when his close-range effort was foiled by Ondrej Kolar.
Arsenal rescued a draw against Benfica after falling behind after the break. Emile Smith-Rowe was penalised for a handball inside the box and Pizzi confidently tucked his penalty into the bottom corner.
Bukayo Saka equalised within two minutes to score his first European goal of the season.
Rangers also came from behind twice to edge an incredible seven-goal thriller 4-3 against Royal Antwerp. Joe Aribo opened the scoring for the Scottish league leaders but Felipe Avenatti and Lior Refaelov scored to give Slavia the lead at half-time.
Borna Barisic equalised from the spot but Martin Hongla restored Slavia’s lead. Ryan Kent came off the bench to equalise with a stunning finish and Barisic secured the win at the death with his second penalty of the night.
