Summer is coming and everybody wants to get their dream beach body ready. But unfortunately for you daily dieters out there, it could be the worst thing you’re doing for your body.
According to a study by The Lancet, daily dieting is putting almost 11 million of us in an early grave each year.
In 2017, 11 million deaths were attributable to poor #diet, 10 million of which were from #CVD, 913,000 from #cancer & 339,000 from type 2 #diabetes. Since 1990, diet-related deaths increased from 8 million due to population increase & ageing #GBDStudy https://t.co/cu3kvYYw6Z pic.twitter.com/pYYB4X436g

It has found that through a lack of fruit, whole grains and too much salt that occurs in certain diets, its causing life threatening heart problems.
Globally, a #diet low in #wholegrains was the most common leading dietary risk factor for deaths. In east Asia and the high-income Asia Pacific region, a diet high in #sodium was the leading dietary risk factor for deaths #GBDStudy https://t.co/X7gliHlFCC pic.twitter.com/vnUUVf5b6W

So, how can we reverse this issue? The main food groups that we here in the UK are missing from our diets were nuts and seeds according to the study. They are packed full of healthy fats, but they are something we just don’t eat. People need to make the shift from fat, sugar and salt and change these for healthy alternatives.
Too much salt can cause high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. Whereas whole grains and fruits have the opposite effect, lowing the risk of heart problems. Prof Christopher Murray, the director of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington said “We find that diet is one of the dominant drivers of health around the world, it’s really quite profound”.
Cheaper options for healthy food are badly needed. A healthy balanced diet is what we need to focus on and to help shift this trend and take the ‘die’ out of diet.
