BREAKING NEWS: Bristol Rovers’ Ryan Broom has signed for Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham Town have this morning confirmed the signing of young midfielder Ryan Broom from League One outfit Bristol Rovers.

The 21 year-old has penned a one-year deal with Gary Johnson’s side and joins Cheltenham’s other new recruits Johnny Mullins and Alex Addai as the squad begins to form ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Newport-born Broom is a graduate of the Bristol Rovers Academy set-up, having joined the club as a 12-year-old, and made his professional debut back in 2015 in the League Cup against Championship side Birmingham City.

Gary Johnson believes he can make a big impact ahead of the 2018/2019 campaign and has faith that he can blossom at Whaddon Road.

He said: “I’ve always been really impressed when I’ve watched Ryan play so we are very pleased that he will join us next season.

“Ryan is a midfield player with real energy to his game. He is quick, strong and the exactly the right type of character that we want in the squad for next season.

“He has been at Bristol Rovers for almost a decade, since joining the Academy as a youngster, and both myself and Darrell Clarke feel it is time for Ryan to play regular first team football. We are delighted to give him that opportunity.”

The young Welshman went on to make his Football League debut in 2016 – against home town club Newport – and scored his first goals for the club in 2017, scoring twice against Wycombe Wanderers.

The right-sided midfielder has also had loan spells with Bath City and last season at National League side Eastleigh, where he scored three goals in 13 appearances for the Spitfires.
