Council plans to stabilise landslips in Cheltenham

Multiple improvements to the A435 at Charlton Hill are being planned by Gloucestershire County Council.

The road, which has been prone to cracking and movement along the surface for numerous years, will be repaired over March to October 2023. During this time the road is closing for all, including pedestrians and cyclists and diversion routes will be provided.

Improvements to the slope will include a crawler lane for cyclists to be safer, carriageway resurfacing, stabilization, draining and footway improvements.

The areas receiving severe movement will be targeted first as funding constraints don’t allow the entire road to be fixed. Four different sections between Charlton Kings and Seven Springs roundabout all need different approaches for resolve.

The plans were originally planned to start in 2021, however further funding and planning was needed. Bollards had been placed around the area with steady monitoring since 2014.

A public drop-in event will be held by the council to give people an opportunity to find out more details and ask any questions. The location and time will be provided on the council’s site once available.

The road will be resurfaced as part of the project from Seven Springs roundabout to Lilley Brook Golf Course.
