Former Arsenal academy player Ilias Chatzitheodoridis could be on his way to join Cheltenham Town, but who exactly is the Greek full-back?The Robins have had problems all season in the left-back position this season, and the 20 year-old Greek defender could just be the answer for Gary Johnson’s side moving forward in the season with his side currently lying in 16th place in the league Two table.
Where Chatzeitheodoridis was born?
Chatzeitheodoridis was born in Katerini, Greece on the 5th December, 1997.
How his career started his career and how the move to Arsenal occurred…
Chatzeitheodoridis started his career at Greek outfit Mas Kallitheakos. After impressing, he earned a scholarship at Arsenal, where he spent two-years. The 20 year-old made 44 appearances for the Gunners under-18’s side, scoring on one occasion – he was released by Arsenal in 2016.
The move to Brentford…
in 2016, Chatzeitheodoridis had a trial with Championship oufit Brentford, and after making his mark on trial during the 2016/2017, it warranted him signing a professional contract with the London-based outfit – he wears the number 31 shirt for the Bees.
Following an injury crisis at left-back, the Bees called-up Chatzeitheodoridis to the first team, as he was named as an unused substitute in Brentford’s 3-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. In March 2017, he signed a new two-year contract extension with the Bees – he has made four appearances for Brentford this season – three in the Carabao Cup, and he also has a solo appearance in the FA Cup this season as they were eliminated in the third round at Griffin Park against Notts County.
Why Chatzeitheodoridis would be an ideal addition for the Robins
Since the injury of Jordan Cranston occurred and it was confirmed that he would be out for the rest of the season, Cheltenham Town have played up to 28 games without a first-choice left-back and it has become a constant problem for Gary Johnson’s side, and it appears that they’re crying out for a left-back to fill in the void which has been left by Cranston.
If anybody is signed by the Robins this season, one area which is needed to be strengthened would be the left-back position and it would make sense if Chatzeitheodoridis is signed by Gary Johnson for the rest of the season.
The club has declined to make any comment on the matter.
