Johanna Konta suffered a shock defeat in straight sets during the second round of the Australian Open.
The British Number 1 lost 6-4, 7-5 against Bernarda Pera after a trail of losses since playing in the semi-finals at Wimbledon against Venus Williams in July.
Pera who is 23-years-old has never competed in a Grand Slam Tournament and has never won a single match, a great achievement for the American.
The 26-year-old, currently world ranked ninth won in straight sets in the first round of this Grand Slam against an another American, Madison Brengle.
Konta reports to the BBC: “It’s a bit frustrating but I’m still taking good stuff from this. I don’t feel, by any means, it’s a massive catastrophe.
“I do think I was a little uncoordinated today…I think my serve definitely let me down a little bit today.
“I’d like to think as the season goes on and as I keep putting the work in, that I’ll just keep trying to find a way.”
During the US open in August Konta, currently seeded ninth in the world, was knocked out in the first round against Serbian, Aleksandra Krunic.
The reaction says it all! ?
