Cheltenham born Paul Casey has finished his opening round two-under-par as he vies for a winning return to the European tour.
Casey has returned from the PGA tour in America with a hope of gaining a place in this year’s Ryder Cup team.
The 40-year-old is currently 14th in the world and will be hoping to play in Paris: “this might well be my last opportunity to play a Ryder Cup match in Europe.
I’ll be, what, 45 in Italy in 2022, that’s a tall ask. So I have to grasp this now and my priority is making that team.”
Tommy Fleetwood currently leads the field of 126, at six-under-par.
Both Casey and Fleetwood were part of a successful European team that recently won the Eurasia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
