Cheltenham Town have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Aaron Ramsey on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the current campaign.
Reports that the midfielder was set to leave Villa for a switch to the Jonny-Rocks stadium broke yesterday with well respected Cheltenham journalist Jon Palmer breaking the story on Gloucestershire Live.
The loan move is the player’s first time moving away from Villa Park as he looks to gain more experience at a senior level.
Hopes for Ramsey are high at Villa and he was handed his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup fixture against Barrow early on in the season, coming on as a substitute to replace Dutch international Anwar El-Ghazi.
Ramsey, whose brother Jacob is a first-team regular at Villa, is an attack-minded midfielder who could be considered as a direct replacement for Dan Cowley who left Cheltenham in January having signed a short-term deal with the Robins in the summer.
Last season, Ramsey help Villa to an FA Youth Cup victory as his side fought off Liverpool in the final of the competition, chipping in with three goals throughout the competition.
The midfielder has also developed a reputation for himself on an international stage, representing England at u19 level and being called up to the u21 side in September of 2021.
Ramsey is the Robins’ fourth signing of the window, following the arrivals of Dan N’lundulu, Ben Williams, and Charlie Brown.
Cheltenham are also expected to announce the signing of Tottenham forward Kion Etete on loan in the coming days, however, the striker is currently recovering from an injury which is preventing them from completing the signing.
Cheltenham Town’s next game is against Charlton Athletic at the Jonny-Rocks in League One on Saturday.
