Cheltenham Town set for League One relegation clash against Morecambe FC

Cheltenham Town play Morecambe FC in the Sky Bet League One on Tuesday night, in a game that could be key for the Robins if they want to avoid relegation this season.

Wade Elliott’s side currently sit 20th in the league, with Morecambe firmly in the relegation zone in 23rd.

Despite the poor league position, the Shrimps have picked up some good form as of late, beating promotion hopefuls Barnsley on the weekend, who are led by Robins legend Michael Duff.

As for the Robins, they come into the game off the back of four straight defeats, making a win vital if Elliott’s men want to change their fortunes this season.

Cheltenham won both of the fixtures against the Shrimps last season, winning 3-1 both home and away, however, manager Elliott insists victory isn’t a given for his side.

“I think just because you won the last one, it doesn’t mean you have the right to just expect to win the next one,” he said.

“Obviously, we’ve done our homework on them, they had a good result at the weekend through beating Barnsley and had a point at Burton last week so we certainly won’t be treating them lightly,”

“Just because we beat them last season doesn’t mean we have an entitlement to rock up and expect the points.”

Despite hitting a tough patch, midfielder Ryan Broom is adamant that the confidence in the squad hasn’t dropped.

“As we team, we are together, its about keeping the same mentality with the fans. We are going to come out from bad runs together.”

The Robins are without star man Alfie May for the tie, who will remain out until late November after sustaining an injury against Shrewsbury, whilst captain Sean Long will sit out the game after a head collision against Burton Albion on Saturday.

Will Ferry is also out for Cheltenham having sustained a back injury in training that will leave him on the sidelines for up to two months.

The game will take place tomorrow under the lights at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium.
