Burton break Forest Green hearts and Robins breeze past Shrewsbury

It was an action packed weekend in League One, with plenty of goals, significant moments throughout and differing fortunes for the Gloucestershire sides .

Forest Green Rovers continued to struggle as they missed out on their chance to get some valuable points on the board by losing to ten man Burton Albion. While Cheltenham Town continued to climb further away from the bottom four with an impressive two-nil victory over Shropshire side Shrewsbury Town.

For Forest Green, it’s more disappointment in a campaign that has been something of a non-starter, with just eight points from 11 games leaving them lingering in 22nd place with Burton and Morecambe only one point behind.

This was a must win game for Ian Burchnall’s side as they failed to capitalise on a 2-1 lead and a man advantage after Burton’s Tom Hammer was dismissed for a poor challenge, and ultimately paid the price when Victor Adeboyejo completed his hat-trick netting a 92nd minute winner to lift The Brewers from the foot of the table and condemn Forest Green to a 7th defeat of the season.

Elsewhere, Cheltenham were able to clinch their third win of the season by beating Shrewsbury Town two goals to nil. The Shrews arrived at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on the back of a 2-1 victory over Burton Albion and were aiming to continue their rise into the top half of the table, however Wade Elliot’s Robins had other ideas.

Cheltenham ended the first half in the ideal way when Sean Long’s extended leg managed to get enough contact on the ball to take it past the Shrewsbury keeper Harry Burgoyne, and they weren’t slowing down either with star man Alfie May netting his third goal of the season just seconds after the restart.
