Gloucester Rugby have announced that versatile forward, Freddie Clarke, has extended his stay at Kingsholm.
Clarke, 29, has made 124 appearances so far for Gloucester and enjoyed a stellar season in 2021/22, which saw him included in the Gallagher Premiership Team of the Year.
Gloucester held an open training session on Saturday, following the postponement of their clash against financially hit Worcester Warriors and we spoke to Clarke, who appeared thrilled by the decision he had made.
“Yeah It’s awesome! I’m very thankful to say, it ended up being a no brainer on the rugby side of things. I think I’m going to play my best rugby being at this club and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Clarke’s form last season also saw him called up to the England Training Squad by Eddie Jones in June 2022.
The Cherry and Whites have enjoyed a mixed start to the season, staging a great comeback to defeat Wasps before narrowly losing out to Saracens in Round 2.
Clarke gave his thoughts on Gloucester’s opening games as well as looking ahead to a huge clash against local rivals Bath at the REC on Saturday.
“Yeah, huge positives this season. I think the first 40 minutes against Wasps was a huge disappointment, but we were able to turn it around. Against Sarries we put together a 70-minute performance, just a few sort of game management issues towards the end of the game. But yeah west country derby, Bath will be raring to come at us after last season’s result, so yeah we can’t wait to get stuck in.”
Gloucester’s trip to Bath is a 3pm Kick off and will be televised on BT Sport.
