Burnley 1-1 Fulham: Scott Parker’s men claim potentially pivotal point in survival race

Burnley and Fulham played out a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor as Scott Parker’s Fulham side continued their bid for survival by picking up an away point at fellow strugglers Burnley.

Following their 2-0 victory away at Everton this weekend, Fulham looked to continue their push for survival, taking on a Burnley side who also came into the game off the back of an impressive win last time out, having thrashed Crystal Palace 3-0 at Selhurst Park.

A poor first-half from both sides ended in stalemate, which saw the hosts have the better of the chances but fail to capitalize, with an Ashley Barnes header from close range going just over Areola’s goal being the pick of the bunch.

It was the away side who made the eventual breakthrough, coming just after the break in the 49th minute when Ademola Lookman’s corner was caught onto by full-back Ola Aina who chested the ball past a stranded Nick Pope to make it 1-0 to Fulham.

Burnley responded in next to no time however when Jay Rodriguez linked up nicely with Barnes who latched onto a through ball and poked home to level the score for the Clarets.

If there was to be a winner it looked more likely to come from the away side, who were unlucky not to snatch a lead late on when winger Ademola Lookman’s sighter was blazed just over Pope’s goal and away to safety.

Fulham boss Scott Parker says he was pleased with the commitment of his players showed following last week’s result, “we had to have a different mentality than against Everton so i’m really pleased with the lads commitment today against a tough Burnley team”.

In a game which both teams will feel they could have won, it was a disappointing result for both managers which now leaves Fulham six points off safety in eighteenth position, while Burnley prop up to fifteenth place, eight points clear of the drop zone.
