Today marks the beginning of British Science Week – a ten day long festival celebrating science, technology, engineering and maths. Run by the British Science Association (BSA), it features interactive and engaging events across the country for people of all ages.
Though the highly-anticipated Cheltenham Science Festival isn’t held until June, there’s plenty of exciting science events in the South West that you can get involved with until then.

Family Talk: The creation of numbers – Bath
To celebrate Pi Day (March 14 can be written 3.14), Bath University is hosting an evening full of philosophical questions and puzzling proofs fit for all the family. Led by Maths Communicator Ben Sparks, it promises to be an entertaining overview of the origin of numbers and all things ‘maths’.
Run to the Deep – British Science Association
Following British Science Week’s popular virtual race last year, Run the Solar System, this year sees a new project to get involved in. Run to the Deep is a running app which tells the story of a journey from the surface of the sea all the way to the Marianas Trench – the deepest know part of the ocean – as you run over a 10k distance. Explorer Pierre-Yves Cousteau narrates the journey as you run, telling stories of exploration and adventure. And the best thing? Anyone can get involved.
We’re delighted to announce that #RuntotheDeep is now LIVE! The virtual 10k race is open exclusively over British Science Week so don’t miss out! Click here to race to the deepest depths with us, and @PYCousteau https://t.co/vDEqmcbpfB #BSW18 pic.twitter.com/aROwEX4EFL
