Bristol City striker Chris Martin is yet to begin talks over extending his contract, as current deal nears end

Former Norwich and Derby County forward, Chris Martin has said that he and the club are yet to begin talks over extending his current deal, which runs out at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The 33-year-old joined the Robins in the summer of 2020 originally on a two-year-contract and City do hold an option to extend that for a further 12 months.

But as of today Martin has made it clear, his future is yet to be discussed.

“No nothing has taken place so far, we’ll have to wait and see.

“It doesn’t really matter too much to me, contract situations are only sorted out by performances on the pitch so if I can continue with good performances that will only help my case.”

Martin has had a resurgence in form since being restored to the starting XI against Cardiff, scoring three times in three appearances, including a brace in the Severnside derby to take him to eight goals so far this season.

His upturn in form has coincided with the introduction of Antoine Semenyo as a strike partner with Andreas Weimann just behind the strike force, helping provide an extra source of mobility around Martin.

“It feels like we’ve got a good understanding together and things have really clicked,” he explained.

“It’s quite rare for it to happen so quickly. We feel like we know each other’s games and it’s a real good combination so far.”

Many City fans have touted the forward as a future manager, due to his well spoken manner in interviews as well as his obvious leadership qualities on the pitch but Martin is in no rush to hang up his boots.

“Right now it’s something that I’ve not given much thought to be honest,” said Martin.

“I know a lot of players my age are doing badges and what-not, but I’m not sure that it’s the avenue I want to go down, that might change it but there’s a lot of other stuff I would like to explore.

“I’d love to play for as long as I possibly can and I still see myself as being able to do that for a good few years yet so that’s going to be my main focus.”
