Did you wake up on Sunday morning with the usual crippling hangover after a lively Saturday night? Well now you don’t have to, as Cheltenham’s first alcohol-free bar is set to open this new year.
Providing support for those recovering from alcohol and drug abuse, The Nelson Trust is opening The Sober Parrot with the aim to create a safe space. The new venue is the sister venue of The Hub Bistro in Gloucester, a popular eatery on Southgate Street.
Funded partly by donations, the team are raising money by promoting Dry January, encouraging people to donate what they would have spent on alcohol towards the scheme.
In a press release, The Nelson Trust said “The Hub creates space for people to recover from addiction to drugs and alcohol. Through working together to overcome isolation, exclusion and loneliness we can help individuals fulfil their potential and benefit the community as a whole.”
The Sober Parrot is set to open soon, with work underway to refurbish the former Number Seven wine bar building in St James’ Square. The venue will provide Cheltonians with an alternative night out, with the offer of live music, a cool atmosphere and an array of mocktails.
