The Mitres will host bottom-placed Iron Acton at Kayte Lane, where a win would secure a third-place finish, bar unprecedented events in Dursley vs Cheltenham Saracens.
A successful season for Bishops Cleeve Ladies, where 11 wins in 19 league games puts them in third with just one to go, is set to culminate with a home fixture against Bristol-based outfit Iron Acton.
The Mitres trail the top two by a considerable 10 points, and could still miss out on third place if they lose not only their final game, but also their +12 goal difference over Dursley Town, who are one point behind Chris Gough’s side.
Iron Acton, on the other hand, are sat bottom of the table in 11th with relegation already confirmed. They’re also still in negative points, as a -15 point deduction brought about by a number of walkovers and just one win on the board leaves them with a -12 tally.
They still have three games to go, too, but even winning all three wouldn’t be enough to catch up to Longlevens in 10th, who have four points after also suffering a deduction.
Their -15 has been brought about by five walkovers due to both a lack of players, and a sixth one last weekend in favour of Bristol and West most likely means that Iron Acton will finish the season on less points that they already have.
Speaking to Park Life Sport about this bizarre situation, and the possibility that the game doesn’t go ahead, Cleeve midfielder Molly Winter said, “I’m hoping they won’t pull out of the fixture, to be honest, but I’m about 80% sure they’ll just give us the home walkover, which would be heartbreaking.
“They’ve also given away so many away walkovers, it’s crazy.”
When it came to the unlikely event that her side lose their final game and rivals Cheltenham Saracens lose considerably to Dursley, Winter added, “Saracens always give us a competitive game, so hopefully they’ll do the same to them (Dursley).”
Should the Mitres hold onto third, which looks likely for more reasons than one, it would secure their highest ever finish in terms of both league position and their points tally (37).
Also, if top goalscorer Leonie Gough scores only one more, she could top the Gloucestershire County Women’s League Division One scoring charts with 26, tied with Dursley’s Alishia Mabombo.
With these in mind, it will be all to play for on final day.
