A new Aldi looks set to come to Gloucestershire, as the supermarket giant outline plans for the store.
The supermarket is planned to be built in Innsworth, located just off the A40 in Gloucester, as part of the Innsworth Park District Centre project.
A public consultation begins today (Friday 6th March) over the development of the Aldi store which will be situated at the junction of Frog Furlong Lane and Innsworth Lane, in north Gloucester.
The proposal for the new store would see it built within the District Centre, making it an accessible location between Gloucester and Cheltenham. The village’s nearest Aldi currently is a 45-minute walk.
The consultation, which is set to take place for two weeks, is in partnership with Robert Hitchins, the developer of Innsworth Park.
Hitchins is tasked with overseeing the project’s employment and retail spaces, whilst the scheme has partnered with Taylor Wimpy to bring forward news homes at Whittle gardens.
The creation of a food store on the site has already been established with the latest application seeking approval of the design and overall layout.
The development is promising to deliver a modern, purpose-built store and represent a significant economic investment of approximately £7 million in the local area.
Aldi say the project “would improve local access to affordable food shopping for the growing Innsworth community, helping to reduce the need for residents to travel further afield for everyday groceries.”
“Aldi is a long-term investor in communities across the UK, and the proposed store would create up to 40 quality full and part-time jobs for local people, paid at an industry-leading rate.”
