A Cheltenham man received an award last night at a Breeze Radio event celebrating local heroes. Terry Howard, founder of the Cheltenham Guardians, brought home the award for the ‘Charity Champion’ title after being nominated last month.
The Breeze Local Heroes awards are held annually, recognising inspiring and inspirational people in Cheltenham and Gloucester. Yesterday evening the event was hosted by Manor By The Lake and presented by Breeze Breakfast Show host Craig Wright;
“We had a wonderful evening celebrating our Local Heroes, with some many deserving winners, showcasing outstanding kindness, bravery and heroism.”

The Cheltenham Guardians was founded by Howard with the aim of helping young people in the town at night, providing “aid, assistance and welfare services” for those who need it. In a typical night, the Guardians can be seen helping with anything from A&E trips to performing CPR to simply paying for a taxi, and Terry’s commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Fellow Guardian Tara Rowe nominated Terry, saying;
“I really could go on for hours about how wonderful this man is. I have never met someone who cares more about the welfare of young people. His heart is one of the biggest I’ve ever known. I would nominate him a million times over if I could.”
Terry took to Twitter to thank the Guardians team.
An amazing night at @TheBreezeChelt Local Hero Awards. So many remarkable people making a real difference in #Cheltenham & #Gloucester. Honoured to have won the 2018 #Charity Champion Award which wouldn’t have been possible without the remarkable @CheltGuardians team behind me. pic.twitter.com/u78tnH1lSb
