Wolves are keen on appointing Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim as Bruno Lage’s replacement, according to reports.
Lage was sacked on Sunday after a 2-0 defeat to West Ham left them 18th in the Premier League table.
He spent £123 million on five arrivals this summer, as Matheus Nunes (£40.50m), Gonçalo Guedes
(£29.34m), Nathan Collins (£21.87m), Sasa Kalajdzic (£16.20m) and Hee-chan Hwang (£15.03m) came in from clubs across Europe, but there has not been any improvement.

”Bruno is an excellent coach, a hardworking and dedicated manager, and a warm, wise and honest man,” chairman Jeff Shi said in the club’s statement.
”He and his staff have been a pleasure to work with throughout their time at Wolves, so it is with much sadness that we have had to make what has been a difficult decision.
The statement also revealed that coaches Steve Davis and James Collins will be in charge of the team for Saturday’s trip to Graham Potter’s Chelsea.
Ruben Amorim to Wolves?
Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim tops Wolves’ list of potential replacements for outgoing boss Bruno Lage, according to The Sun.
The 37-year-old is one of the most highly-rated coaches in Europe, having ended Sporting’s 19-year wait for the Liga Portugal title last season.
He also led the Leões to the Champions League last-16, where they were eliminated by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Sporting paid €10m (£8.65m) in compensation to Braga in 2020, and are reportedly demanding twice as much from Wolves should they want to pry him away from Lisbon.
Amorim, who likes to employ a similar 3-4-3 system to Lage, was also linked with a move to Chelsea prior to Graham Potter’s hiring.
But a move to Wolverhampton seems much more likely, given the Portuguese influence at the club.
Sevilla head coach Julen Lopetegui and Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso are also on Wolves’ managerial shortlist, reports The Mirror.
Lopetegui, who has previously coached Real Madrid and the Spain national team, has been at Sevilla since 2019 but is under pressure after a poor start to the season.
Meanwhile, AC Milan legend Gattuso is trying to bounce back from a disappointing spell at Napoli.
