Lucy Bronze has been named in the Best FIFA Women’s Player of the Year shortlist, facing competition from ten other players including Pernille Harder.
Bronze was named woman player of the year for 2018/19 and was the first ever defender to win the award. The English full back has now re-joined Manchester City after three years at French giants Lyon.
The 29-year-old is arguably the best right-back in the world, earning 70 international caps and scoring eight goals for her country whilst helping Lyon to win their third consecutive Champions League.
However, Danish international, Harder will be looking to get her hands on the award after recently signing for Chelsea Women. Harder had helped Wolfsburg win four consecutive league titles and cup doubles since joining in 2017.
She faced Lucy Bronze in the Champions League final this year but was unable to lift the trophy as Lyon ran out 3-1 winners in San Sebastian. It is unsure if she holds the world record fee or not due to the unknown values of undisclosed deals.
Harder has scored 61 goals in 118 senior appearances for Denmark and won Germany’s golden boot for a second time in the most recent season.
Women’s Champions League final player of the match, Delphine Cascarino also makes the shortlist. Cascarino, who started in her first final, assisted twice as she tore the right side up as Lyon beat Wolfsburg in Spain.
The 23-year-old French international has already registered six assists in the first nine games of the current season as Lyon currently sit second place in the league.
The Best FIFA Football Awards will be held 17, December and the winner will be decided by public vote which can be casted up until 9, December.
