As of October 6th, Tottenham Hotspur currently find themselves second in the Premier League table with 17 points. A sea of change has swept through North London and there are many contributing factors as to why this is the case:
Ange Postecoglu:
Over the summer, Tottenham welcomed the arrival of Ange Postecoglu from Celtic, and the Aussie quickly got down to business. During his time in Scotland, Postecoglu had a win percentage of 73.45% and guided Celtic to two Scottish Premiership and two Scottish League Cups in just two years in charge. Since arriving at Spurs, Postecoglu’s side have won five, drawn three, and are yet to lose in the Premier League this season.
New Arrivals:
Another reason as to why Spurs have been so successful this season is the signings they made during the summer transfer window:
- James Maddison, £40m from Leicester
- Guglielmo Vicario, £16m from Empoli
- Manor Solomon, Free Agent
- Micky Van De Ven, £30 from Wolfsburg
- Alejo Veliz, £13m from Rosario Central
- Brennan Johnson, £45m from Nott. Forest
- Luka Vuskovic, £9.5m from Hadjuk Split
The best of these so far seems to be James Maddison. The Englishman has recorded 2 goals and 4 assists in seven games so far this season, winning him his first-ever Premier League Player of the Month accolade.

This may be down to having Micky van de Ven as a part of the back line. The defender stands 193cm tall and is a solid centre half, with a 7.26 average rating.
Past Players Performing Again:
Despite these new arrivals, players already at the club seem to have begun to play extremely well under the watchful eye of Ange Postecoglu:
Heun Min Son: – Son has been with Spurs since August 2015 and has scored 151 goals in 380 games for The Lilywhites. Despite the loss of talisman striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, Son has still been able to excel this season; scoring six goals in seven matches.

The Italian youngster proved his worth in the Serie A and has returned to North London with a year of Serie A experience under his belt, at just the tender age of 20. Ange Postecoglu has integrated Udogie as his starting left-back his season and the Italian has repaid that faith, recording 2 assists and being a key creative outlet for Spurs.
Cristian Romero: – Romero signed for Spurs in 2021, but is another who seems to have played particularly well under Postecoglu. The center-back has partnered well with van de Ven and has even scored two goals this season. Postecoglu seems to have managed to create a solid core in this Spurs team, something they were incredibly short of last season.
